  • observing the proceedings of local government, County Council, Board of Education and zoning reviews.
  • We Promoting public civic education and encouraging voter participation in government are central to our mission and our work.

Proud History

At the 1920 National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) convention, president and savvy political strategist, Carrie Chapman Catt, founded the League of Women Voters. Six months later the 19th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution was ratified, giving women the right to vote, after a long fought 72-year struggle.

For over 60 years our League of Women Voters of Baltimore County Maryland, has been relied upon to maintain a non-partisan posture in local, state and national politics. The public has learned it can depend upon us for unbiased information in any election contest. Our passionate, tireless volunteers are dedicated Defenders of Democracy, who put their formidable skills and extensive professional knowledge to work everyday, underscoring the critical relevance and vitality of an informed and active citizenry.

Our value statement emphasizes the belief “in the power of women to create a more perfect democracy."

We believe our government is responsible to its citizens, to “maintain an equitable and flexible system of taxation, promote the conservation and development of natural resources in the public interest, share in the solution of economic and social problems affecting the general welfare, promote a sound economy, and adopt domestic policies which facilitate the solution of international problems."

The Capitol Steps: March 29, 2020, 2:30 p.m.Capitol_Steps_2020.png

What better time to see the Capitol Steps, the group that put the “mock” in “democracy”  than after the Maryland Primary?  Don’t miss songs about the Democratic primary candidates (“76 Unknowns”) and the newest late-night thoughts from President Trump (“Tweet It”).  No one knows what the next election will bring, but whether it’s Joe Biden, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or Beto O’Rourke, the Capitol Steps can tell you what rhymes with it!  Whether you’re a Democrat or Republican (or somewhere in-between), if you’ve ever wanted to see Donald Trump sing a rock song, Bernie Sanders sing a show tune, and Vladimir Putin dance shirtless…this is the show for you!

LWV Baltimore County hosts The Capitol Steps, in the Dalsheimer Auditorium of the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation on March 29, 2020.  Their hilarious 90-minute concert tackles both sides of the political spectrum and all things equally foolish.

Tickets will be available shortly through our website.
